REFLECTIVE ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY 2 Reflective Annotated Bibliography Rational Addiction to Caffeine: An Analysis of Coffee Consumption Reference Olekalns, N & Bardsley, P. (1996). Rational Addiction to Caffeine: An Analysis of Coffee Consumption. The Précis The authors of the article Rational Addiction to Caffeine: An Analysis of Coffee Consumption detail how the Becker and Murphy rational addiction model can be used to determine whether coffee’s addictive nature is evident from the data collected on its consumption. According to the authors, the Becker - Murphy model is logical and progressive since the consumer is familiar with the future effects of coffee and considers them when deciding whether or not to consume it. Additionally, the authors state that since coffee has been medically proven to be addictive and the data on its consumption is available since it is a legal substance, it is a simple commodity to investigate. Furthermore, the Becker – Murphy model has prov in determining tobacco consumptions. Vocabulary Addiction, Consumption, Myopia, Psychological, Utility, Rational, Contrast, Desirability, Implication, Equation. Reflection The analysis that the authors do on the consumption rate of coffee is very conclusive. The model that the writer of the article use, the Becker – Murphy model, to determine whether coffee’s addictive nature is evident from the data collected on its consumption is reliable since it has been previously used for figuring out the consumption rates of tobacco. It is my opinion that conducting such research is very important since it helps people figure out just how addictive some of the products they consume are. However, it is imperative to note that the equation used in the Becker – Murphy model can be difficult to comprehend.
