FINAL SUBMISSION: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE 2 Abstract Aims and objectives The purpose of this research was to study the association between nurse staffing level and patient outcomes. Besides, the study also explored the relationship between nurses’ working hours and the quality of care offered to clients. Background Most healthcare systems provide poor patient care with high costs across the United States and other parts of the world. Therefore, expanding access to healthcare, reducing treatment cost, and advancing quality care is crucial. Nevertheless, hospitals are identifying different methods to advance quality and patient results. Methods Use of published literature, reports from governments, and publicly available evaluations of nurse staffing and patient results are some of the leading study methods used in the literature. Data is also collected on nurse staffing level, nurse-percieved patient safety, and overtime. A cross-sectional survey is the primary research method used in most of the literature reviews. Results Low nurse-to-patient ration leads to undesirable patient outcomes. Besides, forcing nurses to work for many hours during overtime contributes to poor patient safety due to the provision of inappropriate quality care. Conclusions

Furthermore, the number of nurses in a hospital determines the quality of services offered to patients. Due to low nursing levels in most hospitals, nurses are likely to work under pressure leading to missed care. The main problem identified in this paper is that a little number of nurses in a medical facility leads to adverse outcomes among patients. However, this paper focuses on the PICOT research question: In regards to hospital patient care, what are the effects of nurse-patient staffing ratios on patient safety and quality of care in hospitals that use staffing plans in comparison to hospitals that do not use staffing plans and how does it affect overall patient care outcomes? Various variables will be used to come up with an effective solution to the identified problem. During the research, the targeted population will range from 24 years to 55+ years from different parts of the world. Researching on the way the low level of nursing level leads to adverse outcomes among employees is significant to nurses. According to recent studies, the ratio of
