Jonathan Maweu Gender Roles Mar/27/19 Society will often find a way to act unfairly to a specific group of people because of their ethnicity, nationality, or gender. 1 Throughout ancient and modern times, women have been specifically targeted to be pushed back by men simply because they have physical and emotional differences. 2 Because of this illogical thinking, sexism slowly seeped into the church, and for hundreds of years during the Middle Ages, false doctrines and beliefs were spewed from the pulpit. Many verses in the Bible were often taken out of context and women were being arrested for naïve church laws. No woman could speak out against the discrimination. The British Library states, Yet however powerful some women were in the Middle Ages; it is important to remember that the overwhelming majority were not. Most women, even those in privileged circumstances, had little control over the direction their lives took. The marriages of young aristocratic women were usually arranged by their families (but here it is worth noting that their husbands, too, had little choice in their partners). 3 But then, during the Victorian Era, a new generation of women decided to work outside of the home and began to rely on themselves rather than relying on a man to provide money for the household. 4 By the early 1900s women could vote and hold some political offices in their countries. In the 1950s, thousands of women were employed, and some were employed by other women. Soon society and the church left behind the teachings of discrimination and began teaching that the human life is valuable regardless of specific gender, race, or nationality. 5 Unfortunately, society and the church are now beginning to veer away from equality between the sexes. False doctrines and beliefs are being spewed from the pulpits again, and verses in the Bible are being taken out of context. Men and women who agree with Biblical teachings are being disgraced by their fellow church attendees and pastors, and Christ lovers who speak out against this ideology are no longer being considered Christians by society. Men and women differ spiritually in God’s eyes and men are called to be spiritual leaders. Ephesians 5: 23 says 1 2 3 4 5

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
