Youth in the 1960s Hannah Whang The 1960s were a time of revolution, rebellion, and change among the youths of America. They were moving closer towards expressing themselves more freely and rebellion against those in higher power. Some examples of these acts were the Post Huron Statement and the Free Speech Movement, which both corresponded with the Civil Rights movement by creat- ing new ideals and uprises against injustice. College in the 1960s was becoming increasingly popular for the youth, the Baby Boomers. The Post Huron Statement was a document created by a group of college students, the Students for a Democratic Society, that the youth of America was not being treated fairly, and that there were many paradoxes being seen in the values of the government and other higher powers. Their goal was to create a new radical political movement as democrats- in other words they wanted to fight against the idea of a hierarchy. The overall main point of the Post Huron Statement was to ensure that the citizens of the U.S. had a say in the decisions and actions that affected their lives.
