Reading Guide for Monday, September 17 th United Nations (UN) In today’s Pevehouse and Goldstein reading we begin with a general discussion of international organizations, particularly intergovernmental organizations, or IGOs. We then focus on the United Nations, which is perhaps the most prominent intergovernmental organization in the world today. 1) Figure 7.1 in Pevehouse and Goldstein (p. 199) depicts the rise of states and IGOs since 1815. Why do you think the number of IGOs has risen so sharply in the past fifty years? 2) Make sure that you are familiar with the two primary institutions of the United Nations: the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. Who is a member of each of these institutions?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
