Europe A great power struggle (US vs. USSR) and an ideological contest (capitalism vs. communism) Major events and developments in this era (1960-1991) & How they affected foreign and domestic affairs Cuba o 1961-Bay of pigs The US learned from this that it was a terrible idea to train CUBAns instead of using its own force b/c it failed miserably. Castro looked like a hero and USSR sent more money o 1962-Cuban Missile Crisis The US learns from this that Cuba is a serious threat with the USSR b/c the US discounted rumors of the USSR putting missles in Cuba until they already were. Vietnam o 1965- U.S. Troops sent to Vietnam-The US sends troops to Vietnam because they thought that the USSR was trying to impose communism in Vietnam. This was the US enforcing their policy of containment. The US learns from this that keeping communism out of Vietnam was going to be harder than they thought. o 1968-Tet offensive-The US had been claiming to be winning but when the Tet offensive attack happened the US media got footage of the offense. The Americans didn’t believe the president anymore. The US learned from this that they weren’t winning and that they shouldn’t lie to the public and lose credibility.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
