Module 2: Psychology as a science 1. The research process is governed by several aspects. These include the hypothesis, theory, operational definition, and research method. The following is a detailed discussion of each. a. The hypothesis is a tentative answer to the objectives of a study. It is usually a statement which researchers seek to prove right or wrong in their research ( Buss, 2015). For instance, a hypothesis can be: There are high levels of illiteracy among the poor. The hypothesis is very important because it defines the scope of study and keeps the researchers on the research topic. b. The theory part provides the relevant framework which researchers follow in an effort to achieve their objectives and prove their hypothesis. It outlines a systematic method of understanding different phenomena and concepts. Theory gives an abstract view of the topic of study and directs the researchers to dig into studies to find the facts behind the topic of study.
