Personality Psych Lecture February 28, 2008 Measure of Actualization Jones and Crandle Self Reporting Inventory Inventory- to calculate your score: 1) Reverse the values for items 2,5,6,8,9,11,13,14 2) Add up 15 values The higher the number, the more self actualized Maslow’s characteristics of Self-Actualized person - realistic orientation - spontaneity - self acceptance and acceptance of others - problem centered - air of detachment and need for privacy Carl Rogers 1) Born with 2 organismic processes a. Tendency towards self actualization- maintain and enhance our being b. Valuing process- know what experiences are good/bad for us i. Help or hinder actualization 2) Phenomenological approach 3) Self Develops from a. Personal experiences b. Interactions with other people 4) Most important human need- need to be loved *Positive Regard a. Being prized, held in high regard, valued by another, validated b. Not born with it- become dependent on others, learned as we grow up - conflicting- value process and need for positive regard
