Personality Psych Lecture March 13, 2008 - self report is fairly stable over time - incremental validity: extent to which test tells us something we didn’t know before - face validity: how well you know what a test is measuring on the face of it o high face validity if it is obvious what the question is asking o projective tests have low face validity, self reports have high face validity - L data: live data - Q data: questionnaire, self report data - OT: other test - Objective tests o Pencil and paper self report tests o Typically ask about A characteristic behavior An overall preference A global opinion o lots of variation in how people answer- not taken into consideration in scoring o scoring is straight forward Comparing objective tests to projective tests Advantages of Objective Tests - economical administration (groups and computers) - skill of administrator and scorer, simple scoring - inter-scorer reliability high - interpretation easier, less costly Disadvantages - impression management- due to high face validity- transparent meaning
