Family Change: Decline Or Resilience The family has been suggested and defined to be a unit made up of at least two individuals who are connected by blood, marriage, or appropriation; live respectively; shape a financial unit and bear and bring up kids. The U.S census bureau for example, characterizes the family as at least two individuals living respectively who are connected by birth, marriage, or appropriation (Lofquist et al., 2012). For course purposes the textbook defines the family as an intimate group of two or more people who live together in a committed relationship, care for one another and any children, and share activities and close emotional ties (Benokraitis, 2012). The definition of exactly what family is changing with time it has become both controversial and, complicated topic. Marriage is defined as a socially affirmed mating relationship that individuals hope to be steady and persevering, and is universal. Nations shift in particular standards and laws directing who can wed whom and at what age, however, marriage wherever is a critical transitional experience that imprints adulthood and its related obligations, particularly accommodating a family (Benokraitis, 2012). Marriage is a great decision and with it comes great responsibility to your partner and later your child that you may or may not want to have. Marriage and family life is in a decline in today’s society. You have some individuals both man and woman who do not want to get married because they do not see it as something they want for themselves. As an individual who has grown up in a two-parent home where her parents were not married I can also say that this could factor into an individual’s decision to
