March 2 Attitude change Learning Theory: how the environment, or other people, can affect change by some sort of response to your behavior. . Classical Conditioning : finding by ivan Pavlov doing research on dogs and their automatic responses… pair something neutral to stimulus to create a physiological automatic response. Humans only have a certain amount of common autonomic responses, like motor functions or reflex (blowing puff into eye, you blink). Visceral responses - fear- can be a good attitude change automatic response. JAWS- early on play music and have scary shark scare people… later on whenever they play the music you get afraid. The music WAS neutral, but then you are trained to become afraid by pairing it with something that causes fear. Sexual stimulation : beer ads and sexual people. Taste aversion - the presence of food makes you sick. This is from a virus that causes autonomic response- sick. But before it strikes you eat something… then you get sick and throw up, so the food you ate gets tied in with the nasty virus that got you sick. Then you
