April 15, 2009 Investment model Satisfaction, Alternatives, investment- commitment – (accommodations, warding off alternatives, sacrifice, infidelity) love doesn’t fit in… it wasn’t considered necessary until recently. Schemas of love are idiosyncratic, unique to me. what is love versus lust? Etc. People prefer to hear “in love with you”… sounds like a time frame and you would be out of love later. But saying “I love you” is too generic. “ in love” is a special case reserved for special people. Theories of Love 1. Passionate vs companionate Love passionate love is all encompassing, arousal when person is near, great desire to show affection physically, have obsessive thoughts about the person. Tends to dwindle after time goes on… like 7 year itch. . this could be due to habituation-like sex might be more routine-, Compassionate is more like best friend love. .no real relationship with time spent. There are tons of different patterns.
