1. Forebrain 1A. Telencephalon Neocortex : Has two hemispheres. It helps with perception, higher motor skills, cognition Cortex : grey matter: cell body. grey matter seems to be the top gum looking layer which is the cell body White Matter : Axons Commissures (corpus callosum), fibers. Underneath cortex and grey matter A gyrus is a ridge (fold) on the cebral cortex The Sulcus are depression or fissures in the surface of the brain. There is a lateral sulcus which separates frontal from parietal lobes above the temporal lobe. The central sulcus splits the frontal and parietal lobes. • Limbic system Limbic system controls motivation, emotion, memory. Includes amygdala, hippocampus (memory), and cingulated gyrus. lateral ventricles Three main looking ventricle thing. The lateral ventricle, third ventricle, then the 4 th ventricle (going top to down). Ventricles are fluid filled areas of the brain. • Basal Ganglia
