April 1, 2009 New Look This doctrine had to mesh with the Republican Party’s commitment to reducing federal spending and shrinking the federal government. The US created a crisis in which would seem conceivable that the threat of nuclear weapons was plausible. Government operations in other countries: The CIA participated in a subversive campaign to overthrow the Guatemalan government. US participated in the revolution both in Iraq and Iran. Planned invasion of Cuba Cautiousness of the Eisenhower Administration Eisenhower was elected in 1952, Republican, he left the New Deal state intact and may have even strengthened it a little bit. The French had difficulty retaining control over Vietnam and they suffered defeat, call for Americans to help the French. Eisenhower had no interest in committing the US fully to Vietnam, he did not want to put America in a vulnerable position as happened in Korean war, did not want to commit human or financial resources. American liberalism of the 1960s Election of JFK in 1960, liberal democrats came to power, pledging to do more in international affairs and to address domestic issues, close relations of them during Cold War. JFK wanted to get the country moving again, liberals wanted to create a more aggressive foreign policy, more intervening more robust When Kennedy ran in the election he was pledging to address what he thought to be the “weakened power” of America in the world stage.
