2 Redesigning the Job A job is a method of providing goods or services to somebody in exchange of money to earn their livelihood. There are always some jobs that we find interesting and some we do not like. A person should be satisfied to stay motivated for the job (Sabine Sonnentag. 2017). It is believed that a person can only stick to one job if he/she likes to do that job and not just doing it for the sake of earning money. This paper is divided into two parts which begins with the job that I consider as worst till now and the job characteristics that are needed to perform this job. The second part of the paper describes the changes that can be made to make the same job more interesting and the amendments that can be made in the same five job characteristics to produce the best results for the company. A job is a task that everyone has to do for their living and achieving the personal goals. However, I have tried several jobs such as Mechanical Supervisor, Sorter Loader, Replenisher, Pizza Delivery Driver. The job which I consider as worst in my life till now is of sorting and loading. I got this job in staples warehouse and in this job, workers receive pallets of boxes that needs to be sorted for an individual truck route. After receiving unsorted pallets, workers start sorting and building pallets for the specific truck route and then they take those pallets to the truck to load boxes in different shelves of carts placed in the truck. Moreover, it requires various characteristics to perform the job such as skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy and feedback (Johari, J., & Yahya, K. K. 2016). Skill Variety: Skills are the different abilities that a worker needs to develop to get a particular job. All the jobs require different skills such as some require good communication skills, mathematical skills, technical skills etcetera. There are various skills that are required to perform this job which includes some workers must learn to drive forklifts and walkies to take pallets of boxes from one place to another. 3 Redesigning the Job to drive these machines. Moreover, workers need to be accurate while sorting boxes so that boxes doesn’t end up in the wrong truck. Task Identity: Workers need to identify their tasks properly. Every employee must engage themselves in each task in their idol time like sorting and loading boxes to improve the productivity of the company and engaging themselves in each task will increase their interest in the job (Odunayo SALAU. 2014). Furthermore, sometimes workers need to understand the sense of urgency and they have to complete their tasks in quick time to send the drivers on road. But they must load every box very carefully to make sure that drivers do not find any difficulty to deliver boxes to the right customers.
