Courtney Peterson Bio 180S – Ape-Human Transition Andrews, Peter and Jay Kelley. Middle Miocene Dispersals of Apes. Folia Primatol 78 (2007): 328-343. The Miocene environment & hominoid origins Food and diet have strong influences on natural selection. The ability to fill fit into an ecological niche that provides a species with enough nutrition to propagate is of vital importance to survival. Therefore, adaptations such as robust jaws or thickly enameled teeth in the case of a hard fruit diet (Andrews 328) can greatly improve the fitness of a species. Such adaptations are only of the many ways that environment has an impact on the morphology and range of a species, and in turn the morphology and range of the Miocene primates has ultimately had an effect today’s primates. Not only can what is known about an environment at a given era explain the diet of a species, but fossil remains can also be used to hint what kind of food was available to the primates of that time.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
