There are many social phenomenons which influence drug abuse. Homeless people
especially the youth are more vulnerable to drug abuse. This can be explained by several social
phenomenons. Social deviance forms a pool of drug abuse victims. The victims of drug abuse are
most commonly the less educated, the homeless and the poor people. Therefore, with the
presence of this kind of people drug abuse is likely to be there more. The social environment has
a great role in determining whether a given individual will start abusing drugs or even develop a
disorder of drug use. Poor education leads to poverty and homelessness. This builds a population
which is more vulnerable to drug abuse. People who have issues with their mental health are also
more likely to abuse drugs. Drug abuse is a disorder which is complicated and it has
consequences which are far reaching. Drug abuse victims extend beyond these people who are
less fortunate and often include friends and family.
The perspective which aligns best with drug abuse is the interactionalist perspective. In
most cases, drug abuse arises from the interaction with other people who are already abusers of
drugs. People who become drug addicts and abusers often learn this behavior from other drug
