Brannan & W.E. Boyce (Wiley 2007) Course Content: Ch. 1 Introduction Section: 1.1 & 1.4 Ch. 2 First Order Diff. Eq’ns. Sections: 2.1, 2.2 & 2.6 Ch. 4 Second Order Linear Eq’ns. Sections: 4.1 – 4.8 Ch. 5 The Laplace Transform Sections: 5.1 – 5.9 Ch. 3 Systems of Two First Order Eq’ns. Sections: 3.1 – 3.6 Ch. 9 Nonlinear Diff. Eq’ns. and Stability Sections: 9.1 – 9.2 Grading Plan Homework Assignments 10 % (Selected problems given in the textbook) Lab Problems & Quizzes 25 % (Simulation tasks & Quizzes based on HW) Chapter Tests 40 % (Chapter exams based on lectures + HW) Final Exam 25 % Homework: homework problems will be assigned, but graded only on a qualitative basis – i.e., grades will be assigned as follows: HW Score ± above average effort (completed at least 80 % of the assignment) = 5 ± average effort (attempted most problems, completed 60-70 %) = 3 ± below average effort (attempted 70 % of problems, completed 40-50 %) = 1 ± no work submitted, or very poor effort (e.g., attempted less than 50 %)
