Lifeguard skills need to be maintained at this level You should always be able to perform the same skills required to pass the initial course Key Points ILTP lifeguards learn how to anticipate, recognize, & manage an aquatic emergency. ILTP lifeguards are expected to perform according to an established standard of care. ILTP lifeguards maintain a professional image, which earns respect from guests & positively reflects upon the lifeguard’s facility. Professional lifeguards wear a uniform that identifies them as a lifeguard, provides protection from the environment, & allows immediate access to equipment to respond with during an emergency. Professional lifeguards employ standard precautions to minimize exposure to potentially infectious diseases when providing emergency care. As a professional lifeguard, you are accountable to your employer, to guests, & to yourself. Professional lifeguards perform best when they are held accountable. Audits conducted internally or by a third party may be utilized as a means of maintaining lifeguard accountability. Chapter 2: Vigilant Lifeguard The Vigilant Lifeguard 10/20 Protection 10 seconds to scan your zone & recognize a GiD 20 seconds to reach the GiD &render aid Pre-service training includes specific zone training Proactive Scanning Determine scanning patterns that help you maintain 10/20 protection Include downward head sweeps when scanning
