04/14/2009 Types of Hypotheses & Research Questions (cont) - Hypotheses and Research Questions can also be directional or non-directional - Directional : state the way the relationship goes - Hypotheses actually staging the way the relationship is suppose to go, not just causality - “Women are more likely to be asked out, and men are more likely to ask” - Directional Hypotheses: - H 1 : Children who watch more TV violence will display more violent behavior than will children who watch more non-violent TV - H 2 : Watching TV violence will lead to imitation of violent behavior - H 3 : Children will imitate rewarded TV violence more than punished TV violence - Directional RQ: - Will children imitate rewarded violence more than punished violence? - Non-directional : does NOT state direction of relationship - Non Directional Hypotheses: - H 1 : There will be gender differences in imitation of violence [Note: it doesn’t state which gender will imitate more]
