Read 6706 – Discussion 2I do not one hundred percent recall when I began to read in my earlyyears.If I had to guess a range of time it would be between the age of fourand six.I come from a family of educators who value education at thehighest level.Both my parents have their doctorate degrees.My motherretired seven years ago as a Middle School Principal.Both my parentsinstilled high expectations for my sister and I by reminding us “failure isn’t anoption.”I do have fond memories of my parents reading to me each nightbefore bed.During the summer, my mom would take my sister and I to thepublic library for story time and to check out books.I feel it is essential for educators to create a safe environment wherereading is encouraged. I believe it is important for teachers to know theinterests of their students.At the beginning of each school year, I have mystudents fill out a questionnaire on their favorite type books as well as booksthey would like to read but haven’t.I then take those responses and use myScholastic points and order books of their interest.This is one example of
