Introduction Many women have rated the experience of giving birth as highly distressing and depressive. Over the years, numerous qualitative studies have been conducted in which new mothers experience not only high levels of anxiety and anger, but also post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Approximately 25-30% of new mothers, experience subclinical levels (partial) PTSD, while 6% experience full PTSD. The researchers of this study aim to identify predictors of PTSD following childbirth in order to provide screening instruments, which enables medical professionals to identify women in need of interventions along with other preventative measures. The researchers sampled 224 women who have recently given birth by utilizing online surveys. The results were computed through single correlations between PTSD symptom severities and variables along with multiple regression analysis in which the predictor variable were prenatal variables, birth-related variables, postnatal social support, and cognitive variables. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
