Martin Luther was born on November 10, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany to his father Hans and mother Margarethe Luther . The Luther family moved to Mansfield in 1484 where Hans worked at a local mine . 1 Martin attended school in Mansfield until 1497, when he was sent away to school in Magdeburg and in 1498 he went to school in Eisenach . At the age of seventeen, he attended the University of Erfurt where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Arts degrees . 2 Martin continued at Erfurt, where he attended law school as his father wished . During a thunderstorm in 1505 Luther became very afraid as a lightning bolt hit near him . Luther yelled out, “Help Saint Anna, I will become a monk!” 3 After he made it through the night, Luther left law school and as he promised and joined the Augustinian Monastery in Erfurt on July 17, 1505 . Luther was devoted to the monastic life, but it only seemed to make himself more conscious of his own sinfulness . Johann van Staupitz ordered Luther to continue his academic career to keep him from too much introspection . In 1507 Luther was ordained and began teaching theology the next year at the University of Wittenburg . Luther kept studying and became 1 Martin Brecht , Martin Luther , trans. James L. a doctor of theology in 1512 . 4 He was then appointed to the position of Doctor in Bible at Wittenburg . Luther studied the Psalms, the book of Hebrews, Romans, and Galatians especially . He began to interpret the Bible for himself and had taught some ideas that were in conflict with the Catholic Church, such as salvation coming through faith alone . 5 However, on October 31 1517, Luther would cause quite a commotion when he nailed his 95 Theses in the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg . That same day he sent the document to Albert, the Archbishop of Mainz and Magdeburg, and thus started the Protestant Reformation . Martin Luther’s 95 theses focus on the offense of the Church’s offering of indulgences . Luther believed that religion was a more intimate relationship with God instead of being connected to God through the clergy .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
