Extra Credit Homework #2 : Due September 20 th by the end of class. (1) ($1,000) From the Economics in the Movies workbook watch the scene from Babe (scene 10 in the workbook). Describe how specialization works on the farm? Specialization works on the farm b/c each animal does its own unique job so that production occurs well and efficiently. The border collies round up the sheep, the roosters fertilize the hens’ eggs, and the duck can wake people up. But as soon as he “discovered his gift” aka his specialty, the humans get an alarm clock. Why is being “indispensable” so important to Ferdinand? Ferdinand wants to be indispensable so that the humans keep him around. He says that humans eat duck and he doesn’t want to lose his life. If he is necessary, he will live. This is true in a business sense too. If at work a worker is unnecessary, s/he may be fired. How does the introduction of the “mechanical rooster” alter the specialization of the farm animals?
