Do you think it is possible to assess risk? Yes, NIST indicates that a risk assessment analyzes is a process that helps the business identify and manage potential problems that could undermine key business initiatives or projects (Computer Security Division, 2016). As part of this process, the resulting determination of risk may be expressed in a quantitative or qualitative fashion. The risk assessment is an inherent part of an overall risk management strategy, which attempts to, after a risk assessment, introduce control measures to eliminate or reduce, any potential risk-related consequences. One way of doing this is to make your best estimate of the probability of the event occurring, and then to multiply this by the amount it will cost you to set things right if it happens. This gives you a value for the risk: Risk Value = Probability of Event x Cost of Event Is risk a good thing or a bad thing? The risk is both good and bad.
