SC121 Unit 4 Assignment PART 1 1. Why are cells important to the body? “They are the basic, living, structural, and functional units of the body” (Tortora & Derrickson, 2017). 2. Which organelle do you think would kill you the fastest if you lost it? Explain your answer. I think one of the organelles that would kill us the fastest if we lost it is the mitochondrion. The reason I believe the mitochondrion would kill you the fastest if we lost it is because they are the “powerhouses of the cell”. Mitochondria absorbs nutrients and then creates energy. Without it, our muscles would weaken and would not be able to function properly and eventually quit working all together. 3. How is cell shape related to function? Give at least 3 examples and explain. The shape of a cell varies based on what function it will perform in the body. Sperm cells have a long tail that they use to propel themselves.
