Homework Case 1 – Chapter 5/page 169 – Working with Slackers Hurts Motivation1.What kinds of signs might you look for when determining whether slacking is a problem? How could you encourage employees to reportsuch poor performance?When determining whether slacking is becoming a problem, employee work performance must be looked at and analyzed. Managers must be positive that their employees are maintaining their work standards and are still fulfilling the duties that are assigned to them, if the employees work ability is dropping or not meeting standards then certain steps need to be taken to determine whether slacking at work is the main problem. For example, if an employee has a certain sales quota to meet and is failing to meet that quota then a manager must look at the situation and see if quota isn't being met due to the employee slacking or possibly something else. Another sign that could be looked at to see if employee slacking is prevalent is the team morale. When employees are working hard and doing their job a sense of pride and accomplishment should be seen and felt in thework environment, however if employees are not working as hard as they should be and slacking on the job then you will often see employees caring less and not working hard enough.
