MODULE 6: An integration strategy Preview In this module, you will study an integration strategy that helps keep IT initiatives aligned with business objectives and requirements. Senior executives are beginning to view IT as an investment that needs to be justified and provide a return to the organization. Therefore, IT initiatives must be able to demonstrate a clear contribution to the competitive advantage of the organization and do so in a way that is measurable and properly governed. As the integration strategy becomes clear, it will be necessary to scan available information standards and related technologies to identify the configuration best suited to support the strategy. This module explores current IT standards that support business process integration and won't lock the organization to specific vendors or configurations. The overriding objective of the integration strategy must be to enable the organization to be agile so that it can quickly respond to changes in business conditions and opportunities. A focus of this module is to present relevant IT standards that need to be considered when developing the IT strategy. In addition, a number of current technologies that support these standards are described. You then study XML and how it is applied today. This module ends with an explanation of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) and how it is being adapted in Canada for business reporting.
