5-2 Journal: Phenomenological Concepts Carl Rogers’s theory is built on a significant insight of the human condition and self- concept. Rogers recognized that people have to recognized themselves now and their future. His idea of therapy was to allow the person to come to their own conclusion unless it was necessary for the therapist to intervene by leading the client into the direction of self-actualization. There were three steps to his type of therapy: congruence or genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding (Cervone, 2019). I do not think there is any congruence between my actual, ideal, or ought selves. My personality is very contrary to my real life. I am a person that I like to be sociable, have friendships, and enjoy outings with family and friends. My reality is that I have no one to date, I have no friends and my family is in Puerto Rico. In my personal environment I am happy, but
