Not want to have sex Construct a Definition of “Normal” Sexual Behavior Defining “Normal” Sociological/Cultural/Historical o Laws, norms, or customs f a society. May also be based on religious beliefs and may include the messages and values received from one’s parents. o Normality is a social construct o Cultural relativism – The trend or thought of the time and how it influences sexual behavior at the time Biological – Is it healthy or natural for the person? o Focuses on reproduction – does it help the person in a healthy or safe way Psychological – Sexual activity that does not result in emotional distress o Statistical – behaviors that the majority of people (society) engage in Continuum between normal and abnormal behavior o Do not have a dichotomous stance if you do, you stereotype and stigmatize people One end of the continuum Homosexuality Heterosexuality Importance of context
