Jacob Sutker Professor Peter Bailey Eros and Education 29 August 2006 Bodies? Throughout most of my education the issue of bodies never seemed relevant in my learning experience. The idea of one’s body imposing on the way we learn and even think was nonexistent. Most teachers never touched on the topic and just recently did I find that the teachers and even students tended to de-emphasize the importance of an individuals body. My school mainly focused on equality amongst students and sameness through strict dress-code and moral conduct. Teachers often stressed the importance of uniformity. It was made clear that by forgetting our individual self and physical characteristics of others, we would be able to have a more focused and better learning experience. As Bell Hooks once said, “trying to remember the bodies of my professors, I find myself unable to recall them.” In my case, having experienced many teachers, this statement is very true. I can remember the way they taught and the things I learned from
