Jesus A. Campos MCAS Iwakuni, Japan Assignment 1 Structure. The paragraphs follow a chronological order. Body. The paragraphs in the essay. Character. Either the narrator himself of whomever he’s talking about. Setting. Where the action is set. Atmosphere. The emotional associations arising from the setting. Style. The way the essay is written (narrative, descriptive, etc.) Tone. The overall effect of the style. For example a light tone is characterized by a more usual vocabulary, paragraph structure, use of slang and jokes. Symbol and allusion. The associations with things in the essay. For example, if the writer talks about cementeries the reader will associate that with death, evil spirits, etc. Theme. A point made by a work of fiction. Thesis. The point made by an essay. Assignment 1 (b) Title: The Uncle Fatso Show Date: September 2004 This story is about this guy named Berry LeBrock. He used to be a very active person, but after his wife had a baby he just didn’t take care of himself like he used to. To him, being a father was just more important than being in shape. Well, who wouldn’t? Because of his new lifestyle, he would not exercise as often as he would before and his eating habits changed as well. He started going to seconds after his first plate.
