Altman 1 Final Draft Alexa Altman Cooney, Amber DC English Composition 18 December 2018 My Relationship With My Mom Versus My Dad Ever since I was little my life with my mom, a single parent, and my life with my dad, a married parent, had been vastly different in my upbringing but easily comparable in their love for me. These relationships changed over time, along with my feelings towards them: the good, the bad, and the ugly. See, as a child I worshipped my parents. I’d run into their arms and give them the biggest hug I could give. I was an innocent kid who only knew how to love and love well. Now days, I see my parents and love them immensely, however our relationship has become strained. With my mom, it’s pretty laid back but I’m so consumed with high school and other “priorities” , I fail to make quality time for her. Then there’s my dad. Our relationship has changed so many times over the course of my seventeen-year life. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster: full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and sweet peaks. Though these relationships are very different, especially as I age, they are both very valuable, precious, and memorable in their own ways. My mom and dad got divorced when I was two years old. I don’t remember much of it. What I do remember is the continued bickering over petty things in my early childhood. Though separated for almost all my life, I had strong relationships with both of them when they were both still single. My dad is on his third marriage right now and most likely final marriage. I think even if they get divorced he won’t try another marriage, or he’ll stay with her despite their

2 problems, just to avoid another divorce. Whereas my mom has stayed single ever since her divorce. She always told me, “I don’t need a man in my life. The love from you two kids is all I’ll ever need.” Being me, I always worried about her for when the day comes and we’re off to college. Who will she be with? What will she do? Whereas my dad, I used to wish he stayed single because I felt like he was the most confident, outgoing, and himself when he was.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
