Week 1- Part 1: My Academic and Professional Success Plan Prepared by: Stacy Darwish NURS 6003: Transition to Graduate Study for Nursing
Academic and Professional Network I wholeheartedly agree with the African proverb “It takes a village,” while they were talking about raising their children, I have found it to be true with just about everything in life. As I embark on my Master's degree to open the door to a new career, I am equal parts fearful and motivated. I envision myself be a pivotal part in my community and one day globally, helping the millions of people suffering from various psychiatric disorders. The only way these dreams can become a reality is with the guidance, support, and motivation form my Academic and Professional Network, My Village.
Week 1 | Part 1: My Academic and Professional Network Academic and Professional Network NETWORK MEMBER 1 Name: Melissa Edwards Title: Walden Graduate/MHNP Organization: Pacific Coast Psychiatry Academic or Professional: Academic and Professional Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: I would not have embarked on this journey if it was not for Melissa. Melissa is the one who informed me about the MHNP field and the program at Walden, two plus years ago, while she was attending. She lit my fire! She shared her educational journey with me, and I cheered her on, and now she will do the same for me with the exception she will have much more to offer being she has completed her degree. Now she is a practicing MHNP who continues to inspire and support me.
NETWORK MEMBER 2 Name: Ruth Carlstadt Title: RN, MSN, Ph.D. Organization: Mission Hospital- Laguna Beach Academic or Professional: Academic Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: Ruth is a coworker/Charge Nurse in the ER, where I am currently employed and have been for the past 15 years. I am classifying Ruth as academic support as she is a professional student and an expert in APA and most importantly offered to be a part of my network/support system . Ruth has encouraged me to not rely on PERRLA or Grammarly for APA formatting but to learn it. As difficult as that task seems I trust it will only serve me on this academic journey and in life.
NETWORK MEMBER 3 Name: Farhad Nikoo Title: MH-DNP, FNP Organization: Progeny Psychiatry Academic or Professional: Professional Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse: Farhad is such an inspiring MHDNP; I aspire to have the work ethic, compassion, and integrity he has as he evaluates and treats the acutely ill psychiatric patients that come to the ER. He pulls up a chair and gives these patients his time, his ears and implements a treatment plan. He has been a great support as I researched programs and an excellent reference.
NETWORK MEMBER 4 Name: Walden Student Services Title : Paula Sumner-walker Organization:
