It fulfills the same purpose as APA, MLA or other writing styles. 2. Why is it called Turabian? This style of writing is called Turabian after Kate L. Turabian. Kate was a dissertation secretary at the University of Chicago from 1930 to 1958. She started creating style guides for the students so that there was conformity across papers. These style guides later developed into what we now call Turabian style (also known as Chicago style). 3. Is Turabian the same as Chicago style? Pretty much. You can treat them as the same for this course.
