Research page 1 Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12 th in the year 1809 in Hodgenville, Kentucky. His mother passed away when he was 9 years old. He had two siblings one of them died in infancy. In the earlier days he was known for wielding an ax and made a living splitting wood for fire and rails. He had become romantically involved with Anne Rutledge before he had the chance to be engaged. The Typhoid Fever affected many and Anne died at the age of 22. He then moved to New Salem, VA where over time worked as a shopkeeper, post maker, and general store owner. By then he had taught himself the law because he wanted to be a lawyer. When the Black Hawk War broke out in 1812 between the United States and Native Americans, volunteers in the area elected Lincoln to be their captain. He was able to make several important political connections. When the war ended he began his political career. He was beginning to make a name for
