We generally take the amount of freedom that we’re given for granted. It is important to recognize where this freedom has come from. I believe that the most significant president in American history was Abraham Lincoln because of his fight for freedom and equality. It’s is hard to imagine all of the stress that he must have endured during his presidency. The amount of deaths during the Civil War really puts everything into perspective. Without him, our nation could have crumbled which would have huge detriments to our lives today.Abraham Lincoln led the United States through the largest crisis it has ever seen: the Civil War. It consisted of the bloodiest battles that the country has ever seen. Lincoln was able to win in the end while preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, and strengthening the federal government. When he passed the emancipation proclamation on January 1st, 1863, he intended to free all slaves. This executive order gave a federal legal status to over three million enslaved
