Creon returns with word that once the killer of the previous king Laius is found Thebes will be cured. Upon hearing this Oedipus swears that he will find the killer, and banish him. The Chorus of Thebes suggest to Oedipus that he consult Teiresias, the blind prophet. Oedipus sends for him, Teiresias comes but seems reluctant to answer Oedipus, saying Oedipus does not want to know the answers. Hearing these words angers Oedipus so he threatens Teiresias with death. Teiresias complies and tells Oedipus that he is the killer and that his marriage is a sin. Oedipus is insulted and jumps to the conclusion that Creon paid Teiresias to say these horrible things. Just then Creon enters asking if it is true that Oedipus has accused him. The Chorus tries to mediate but Oedipus accuses Creon of treason. recounts what Teiresias has prophesied. Jocasta comforts Oedipus by stating that there is no truth
