Results and Discussion: Preliminary Work A simple diffraction grating was examined while looking toward an incandescent lightbulb and fluorescent light. The incandescent light produced a continuous line of colors (rainbow), where as the fluorescent light produced faint lines of red, yellow, and blue. Fluorescent Light Spectrum The emission spectrum of fluorescent light was observed with both the hand-held spectroscope and the research-grade spectrometer of a computer. Color, wavelength, and intensity were recorded. For the following data tables, hand-held device intensity was measured using a scale of 1- 10, where 10 means very bright and 1 means you could barely see the line. For research, intensity was measured according to the y-axis values given.
