5.05 ANALYZING 20 TH CENTURY POETRY By Lillian Garretson
“FOG” CARL SANDBURG The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on. This small poem, while only 21 words, still has hidden depth and meaning to it. Sandburg describes the fog as a cat, as they both share similar characteristics, like how they can both travel quickly and quietly. This is all simply a metaphors for the unexpected weather patterns of the early 20 th century. It was difficult to predict the weather accurately, which was inconvenient and sometimes very dangerous. However, much like a cat, the fog brings a sense of peace to those around it. This could be a good change for those who lived the city life, as this lifestyle could be stressful and
