Theory is used and applied while working with different populations within the social work field. Each client has encountered and is working through different issues and deals with situations in a different manner. There are different practices that can be applied to different situations to engage working with clients. If social workers are to practice competently and effectively, they have to be able to understand and make sense of people’s behavior and how society operates, and crucially, be able to use this knowledge in their everyday work (Gordon & Mackay, 2016).
