2PSYCHOPATHOLOGYPsychopathology is studied by many different individuals. To me, psychopathology is a term that refers to the study of mental illnesses and mental disorders. This includes understanding different behaviors and characteristics. Researchers studying psychopathology may also be interested in understanding genetics, psychological, social, and biological origins of mental illness. Understanding psychopathology helps us to understand why individuals behave indifferent ways and gives us more knowledge of how to treat and rehabilitate those who have mental illnesses. According to Miller and Lynam (2015), there are four main subtypes of psychopathy. These types are primary psychopaths, secondary psychopaths, charismatic psychopaths, and distempered psychopaths. The first subtype of psychopathy, primary psychopaths, have no remorse for actions. They do not respond in the same way when faced with stress and punishment. For example, other individuals may feel guilt or sadness when they have done something wrong. This type of psychopath does not react or feel the same way. Secondary psychopaths feel guilty about their actions and can be described as “risk-takers” (Miller & Lynam, 2015). Due to their daring and adventurous nature, they may be unable to resist temptation, leading them to do what they want. However, they do not like to face pain and do their best to avoid it.
