Clements Dillon Clements English 110 Dr. Ford 28 March 2008 Overcoming Myself Anxiety is defined in Webster’s as a feeling of distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune. When I woke up that morning that was the only feeling I would feel for the next 16 hours. Today was just a normal day to the vast majority of my classmates but to me and a select few it was a big day. It was the day of the sectional track meet and fighting off anxiety was far easier said than done. The school day crept along with misguided anticipation. I didn’t learn much that day due to my mind being somewhere else. My mind was doing nothing but visualizing a victory. Coach said that’s how to avoid anxiety and also to avoid mistakes. “Picture perfection and you will be perfect.” Whether or not it was going to work I’d have to wait to find out. The day ended and my time to shine had now arrived. I am unaware of when the anxiety actually set into me, whether it was while I was standing on the oval track jumping up and down waiting for the baton or if it was while I was warming up and looked into the stands to see thousands of people waiting to watch us compete, or if it had
