Progressive Era 1. Describe Progressivism – a national reform movement designed to reform the effects of industrialization and urbanization. Progressive movement is a diverse movements. 2. Muckrackers – investigating corruption in politics, and things like that. They dug up things to fix the problems. cosmopolitan, Ida Tarbell – criticized corruption and greed in business in “A History of Standard Oil Company”. 3. Efficiency in economy a. Automobile industry – Henry Ford – makes the automobile popular and affordable in this country. i. Model T – 1920 ($850) ii. 1913 – Ford creates the first moving assembly lines. This produces cars faster, and cheaper. iii. 1916 Federal Aide Road Act – states must create highway departments in order to get federal dollars for road construction. Establishes the highway system in America. b. Scientific labor management – managers train new employees, break factory operations into simple tasks. i.
