Latifundial states that one rich dude owns: UGT AND CNT more considered l, they are anti-government `who align themselves with the left and these socialists parties in oozie together and they started striking. They start to bring a lot of migrant workers who travel around as hired hands.This shows that there is a deep seated social and economic problems that aren’t being resolvedEverything is day labour, no job security and its men with families Any money in Spain comes from one of these three: Basque- iron, Asturias- local, Catalonia- textiles. We have all the money in spain and we still have to pay taxes, the money is distributed to everyone except for us. We want to separate and be independant little nations On top of all the divisions, now there are three groups arguing for their rights POLITICAL INSTABILITY:1.Separatism: Catalonia & Basque2.Collapse of monarchy: -Isabella ll 1843-1863-1st Republic, elected leader 1868-1874 -1874 Restoration Alfonso Xll -Alfonso Xlll 1898- 1923-Dictatorship: Primo de Rivera 1923-1930: He stepped down because hecouldn't maintain proper guides-Alfonso Xlll to 2nd Republic in 19311
There are social and political parties in Spain: 17 partiesLeft:liberal open minded, open to change, educators and professors, artistic Right: fascist, conservative stubborn to change, they have power, wealth and privilege, religious people SHORT TERM CAUSES 1931-1936 Weakness of new republic to handle radicalism + great depression = war 1.1931 LEFT- Wing government (PSOE) moderate left a.Alcala- ZamoraPresident b.Agrarian Reforms-Law of municipal boundaries April 28, 1931, obligatory cultivation forcing landowners to gain more land, latifundal estates if you had more than 400 acres of land, the government would take the land and give it to whose needs it September 9 1932 Agrarian reform law. c.Urban workerreforms in the north, eight hour work day, provide some security benefits like accidental insurance, and freedom to strike without fear of being fired. In Europe, oldest son gets all the land, all the other kids work in the church. d.The left winded, didn’t want people to think they can accept their poverty. The catholic church has always controlled education. Education controls the middle class and this directs anger at the church. e.Anti-clerical reforms, they take away education from the church and ban all religious symbols from all schools f.Military reforms, the left will be the republicans and demote any military soldiers apart of the primo-de rivera. In spain, they swear an oath to the republic and people start to move to Morocco.
