BSE 2484 Lab # 15 & 16 (Charging Systems) STATION # 1 (DC Generator Components) Examine the generator components at this station and answer the following questions. Does armature in this generator have a commutator? Blank # 1 Does this generator have brushes? Blank # 2 What is the purpose of a commutator and brushes in a generator? Blank # 3 A) To increase the current output of the generator B) To convert AC to DC (mechanical rectification) C) To increase the voltage output of the generator D) To control the flow of current to the field circuit The field coil is a conductor circuit around the poles (permanent magnets) that intensifies their magnetic field when a current is passed through the coil. Connect the ohmmeter to the field coil in the field housing and check the continuity of the circuit. Is the field circuit good or bad? Blank # 4
