IDS 403 CRITICAL ANALYSIS PORTFOLIO 2IntroductionElon Musk, co-founder and CEO at Tesla, is a 48-year old South African entrepreneur who is known for not only Tesla Motors, but also for SpaceX and X.com, later known as PayPal (Elon Musk Biography, 2014). Musk’s innovation in the technology world has had a significant impact on the world, especially with the Tesla model electric cars and his vision in commercial space crafts to send people into orbit. Elon Musk has been in the news recently with his new vision: a computer chip that is implanted in your brain. This chip would be “embedded in a person’s brain by a surgical robot” and would communicate with a computer. Musk envisions one of its uses to be with quadriplegics, so they can control smartphones and other technologies. While “Neuralink” is not yet approved by the FDA, Musk has said that human trails could begin by the end of 2020. Thesechips are very small, thread-like devices that works on brain-machine interfaces (BMI’s). This type of technology is expected to take off, with the neurotech market projected reach $7.6 billion(Livni, 2019). This type of technology is influencing modern society with an extremely innovative way for humans to view the future of technology. Looking at the way humans have connected to technology over the years, there’s nothing quite like Neuralink. Interacting with “Alexa” or “Siri” is one way to connect with technology, but to be able to control devices with your mind through a chip implanted in your brain is what society in past generations imagined exactly what the future would be like. Only it’s closer to becoming a reality that just in movie scripts. Neuralink’s vision has the ability to change society in a drastic way, and it can be seen through each of the four lenses of general education.

Public opinion through news outlets, social media and other communications will likely be widespread. Many will oppose thistechnology arguing that the risks associated are too detrimental. On the other hand, much of society has already shown support.Targeting those with physical capabilities, Neuralink is setting up a future of technology that gives disabled people a chance to have more of a say on what they do with their lives. The invention of wheel chairs, applications for assisted living, and many other assistive technologies have been around for decades. Some of the most popular ones include screen readers, hearing aids and screen magnification software. But we have gotten to a point where controlling these technologies with your mind is a legitimate reality. Musk is on the verge of a technological and
