Chodorow - Prompt 2 - Spring 2009 - Hum 2 Answer one of the following two questions in a 4-5 page essay, due before lecture starts (that includes submitting the essay to turnitin.com) Tuesday, May 12. 1. In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he explains how Christians are free of the Law. In 1 Corinthians Paul has the opposite problem: explaining the limits of Christian freedom. To what extent does Paul draw these limits differently than the Jesus of Mark’s gospel? 2. In the book of Acts as well as in Paul’s epistle to the Galatians, we hear of certain Christians who (before Paul's intervention and Peter's dream) insisted on the relevance of Jewish Law to the life of a Christian. Which life of Jesus—Mark's or John's—offers these so-called Judaizers more support for their claims? 3. A model of what to follow or a warning of what to avoid: which is a better characterization of Augustine's life as he narrates it? Please remember that counterarguments are required for this and future Hum essays.
