Kim 1 Esther Kim Mosaic 0851 Jessie Braun Iwata February 16 2009 What Can Love Do? In the Epic of Gilgamesh , love plays one of the most important roles throughout the journey of Gilgamesh’s life. As Gilgamesh journeys with Enkidu, Enkidu is able to change Gilgamesh by reveals the problems with Gilgamesh’s actions. Gilgamesh has been changed his action because of the love he felt and shared throughout his journey. Gilgamesh is a person who has great power like the gods, he was able to do everything, he never met someone equal, and never shared such a thing like love; love meant nothing to him. The story begins with how Gilgamesh runs a city called Uruk. He does not care about the people who live in Uruk, and abuses his power to achieve what he wants. Nevertheless, at the end of story, he came back to Uruk after finishing his journey, which means Gilgamesh realized what is important to him and where he needed. Out of all the changes he made, the most important fact is that he noticed the idea of love. Gilgamesh started to change his life and learned how to make decisions after he met Enkidu who is as strong and powerful as Gilgamesh. The reason love is such an important theme in the Epic of Gilgamesh is that it has a strong power which changes Gilgamesh’s personality and how he interprets his actions as a human being, friend, and leader. After Gilgamesh met Enkidu, the love is present in all aspect of Gilgamesh’s actions. There are significant differences in how to understand Gilgamesh’s life before and after
