Executive Summary The truck booking project arose out of the need to find trucks quickly and efficiently to deliver goods on time. Further, it attempts to utilize trucks more effectively to the benefit of trucking companies, consumers, and the environment. This web based solution will provide customers with easy to use tools to find the right truck traveling the desired route. The IS (Information System) will function much the same way as a travel agent. This service will save customers time and money. In addition, a GPS tracking tool will be available to lose sight of the goods. Truckers will be able to post their routes and rates. The trucking companies will be able to eliminate their order and processing department. Furthermore, the trucks will be used more efficiently by cutting the time traveled with less than a full load. Revenues will be generated on every booking through a processing fee. Cost will only be incurred through data maintenance and system updates. 2

Proposal Background I see hundreds, if not thousands, of commercial trucks on my commute to work every day. Not all of which haul a trailer or have a full load. This poses enormous inefficiencies which are passed on to customers and consumers through price. Those cost need to be covered. Working for a global freight forwarding company I see our operations staff struggle with the search for truckers every day. Often times we operate under very short notice and are pressed for time. Truckers on the other hand are hard to schedule and also operate under short notice in regards to irregular shipments. Customers and truckers do not seem to be linked efficiently and do not have an effective line of communication. An internet booking portal for all truckers and customers would alleviate the above described inefficiencies. Proposed Solution My team and I suggest implementing a sophisticated online solution -- a truck booking page. Truckers should be equipped with GPS tracking for location transmission. The GPS signals will be picked up and processed by the system. Truckers can log on to, for a minimal listing fee, set rates, traveled routes, and trailer descriptions (for example dry van or refrigerated). Registered customers will also log on for a minimal fee and process their request. They will be able to search by trucker, route, origin, destination, departure time, trailer, loaded goods, and star rating. Rating will be established by customers in accordance with their satisfaction.
